November is here, and Christmas is coming closer! This time of year is so nice in so many ways, but sometimes the pressure of finding gifts for everyone before Christmas can be quite stressful.

The last couple of years, I have tried to start buying Christmas presents already in November just to avoid the stress of having the pressure to find gifts at the last minute.

One way of preparing for Christmas can be to make some homemade gifts. Making some gifts that you can have in store if you suddenly realize you need a gift for someone can be such a good way to avoid unnecessary stress.

Homemade Coffee Syrup

Bath Bomb Recipe

Here are all the ingredients that I used for the bath bombs. I could find everything in our grocery store close to us. If you want to add some essential oil, you might have to look up where you can find that. I had some essential oil at home, so I decided to use that.

1 dl citric acid
1 dl bicarbonate
0,5 dl cornstarch
0,5 dl coconut oil

If you want, you can add a few drops of food coloring and/or essential oil.

Instructions on How to Make Bath Bombs

Start by mixing citric acid, bicarbonate, and cornstarch in a bowl. Add the coconut oil and mix it well.

If you decide to use some food coloring, you can divide the mixture up into separate bowls to add different colors into each bowl.

I mixed green and red food coloring into one bowl and only green in the other. I added a few drops of food coloring into each bowl. I wish now that I would have used less food coloring to make the color a little bit more subtile.

How much food coloring you add is, of course, up to you. The brighter color you want, the more food coloring you add to the mix.

When I was in the grocery store picking up the ingredients, I found these ice ball makers that I decided to use to make round bath bombs. The ice cube mold with stars we had at home. What kind of molds you use is up to you!

When you have shaped your bath bombs, you need to let them dry for about one day before you can use them.

The Perfect Homemade Gift

These bath bombs are an easy homemade gift that you can vary in so many different ways. Now, as the holiday season is approaching, I am thinking that you could easily make a Christmas version of them with some Christmas essential oil. I Googled and saw that there are so many different essential oils out there.

Using different colors also makes it really easy to make bath bombs with specific themes.

Really Bubbly Bath Bombs

These bath bombs are really bubbly. Sometimes it feels like everything homemade sometimes lacks the wow factor. But these bath bombs won’t disappoint you! They are really bubbly!

I guess that it is the effect of the citric acid. The citric acid is the ingredient in this recipe that can bring the price up a little bit, but I think that it is definitely worth it!

Bath Bombs with a Surprise

As I have been looking up different kinds of recipes on bath bombs these last few weeks, an advertisement popped up with bath bombs with a surprise inside.

We have three children, and I think that would be such a fun little thing for them. I think it should be quite easy to just place a little plastic toy inside these bigger globe bath bombs. Especially our three-year-old would be so excited about that.

So maybe that would be a fun thing to try if you are planning to give homemade bath bombs as a gift to someone.

September is coming closer, and fall is around the corner. If you have followed this blog for some time, it is no surprise to you that fall is my favorite time of year.

The beginning of fall is so beautiful in this part of Sweden. I enjoy the colder weather and the fact that we get to pull out our warmer clothes from the wardrobe and light some candles, and have cozy evenings under a blanket makes me so happy.

All the warm colors of fall are so beautiful, and I usually get really inspired to be creative when days get shorter and we spend more time inside. Knitting is definitely one of my favorite activities to do during the colder seasons, but here are of course so many different ways to be creative.

Just make sure to color the house before you cut it out, and the rest of the process will be very easy to follow.

1. Color the house
2. Cut out the house using scissors
3. Fold the corners and the roof
4. Glue the corners together so that the house can stand
5. Glue the roof together
6. Cut open the door so that you can open it.
7. Then you have a small paper house. If you want you can put an electric tea candle inside to make it look like someone is home.

An Encouragement For The Coming Season

Another good thing with fall is that, at least for me, it feels like life slows down a little bit. I spend more time inside, and during an evening at home, there is more time available to read God’s word.

And when we choose to live in the Word and meditate on it and let it transform us, we will see fruit from it.

Fall is a season when we get to enjoy all the things that have been growing during spring and summer. Fruit trees are full, and the fields are ready for harvest. This is a good reminder of the fact that what we sow, we will reap.

God is so good, and He is so faithful. He wants to bless you. Every moment spent with Him will bring good fruit.

Summer is here, and in June, both our older children started their summer break. On their last day in school and kindergarten, they gave a card they had made themselves to their teachers.

They both wrote down what they were thankful for to their teachers on the back of the cards. It was so sweet to see what their teachers had meant for them this year.

Even if our children spend most of their time with us at home, it is also really nice to see how other adults in their live have such a special role in their lives.

Further down in this blog post, you can find some free printable flower coloring cards that I made through Canva that you can use if you want to make similar cards.

Flower Craft For Kids – FREE Printable

Using a coloring page to make a card is a quite easy way to make a handmade card. Making a card out of a coloring page is easily done by printing out the coloring page on thicker paper.

Another way is, of course, to print out on regular paper and glue the coloring page to thicker paper as we did with the cards in this blog post.

Even if we like to do craft activities as a family, I have realized that simple and uncomplicated craft ideas are the ones that we like the most. If there are too many things that we need to buy for a craft activity or too many steps to finish a project the whole idea of doing something creative, isn’t that fun anymore.

This idea of making these cards was a quick project, but at the same time, really fun. We used some of the flowers that we have been growing on our balcony but if you would like to make your own card, you can feel free to choose any flowers that you like.

As said earlier, this free printable was made in Canva. Feel free to print it out if you want to make a card yourself. The printable is of the size A4 and for each print out you get two vases of flowers so you can make two cards.

Why Handmade Cards Are Worth The Time Making Them

Many years ago, when I was working with YWAM, we had many guests who came to stay overnight at the place where we lived. Sometimes guests stayed for only one night, and other guests stayed for longer periods of time.

During a time I was working with the hospitality team, and the leader of the team used to make such beautiful handmade cards for the people who came to visit.

She really had a talent for making every guest feel so welcome when they came to visit, and one of the things she did was to put time into the welcome basket that always was left on the beds for the guests who came.

The welcome basket had some sweets from Sweden, a drink and a handmade card.

The Time Put Into A Card

Working with her taught me how important it is to put time into making people feel welcome. The small details, like making handmade cards, really matter to make people feel welcome.

Now, as our children really like to draw, color and make things by hand it is so fun to make things with them that they can give to others.

My husband and his father are both really talented in folding origami. They both have the patience and fascination for that and can fold a lot of different animals.

Right now my husband’s parents are visiting from Colombia and we spend a lot of time as a family with them. During the last couple of weeks I have been reminded of the fact that they are very good at folding origami.

The Butterfly Fascination Of Small Children

Our youngest daughter will turn three years old this summer and she is in the middle of a phase when she is fascinated by butterflies. And she has also understood that butterflies are something really beautiful and precious.

She likes to call herself a butterfly, I think she does that because she sees butterflies as pretty and something that people appreciate. I like the confidence she has in that.

Small children really have the gift to teach us older people about the beauty of life, to slow down, and to appreciate the beauty around us. I am still learning, even if I have spent most of my last 8 years at home with children. But slowing down and appreciating the beauty in small things is something most of us tend to forget as we get older.

The Beauty In Small Things

Instead of always trying to get our children to follow our pace in life, I think we have a lot to learn when we choose to follow their pace instead.

I am fully aware that there are many days when this isn’t possible but in the moments when we can slow down and follow the pace fo our young children, I think we should enjoy it to the full instead of letting our own way of doing things be the norm that we strive for.

These last few months I have been thinking that maybe children, with their unhurried way of living just reflect very much on how we are created. In the Bible, we can read about how God created this earth and everything in it and saw how good it was. God was so happy with everything that he had made.

Often I tend to think the same thing about God as I might think about my children on hurried days, that He is too slow and that if I could choose the timing of things, it would be a lot better. But maybe that is just another sign that we actually were created for a more slow-paced life?!

This blog post is for me. Mostly. I have been challenging myself to do less scrolling and try to do things that give me rest and inspiration instead.

I am a mom of three young kids and time is a thing that has a lot of value at the moment. No matter how I plan out my days it seems like there isn’t enough time for everything I would like to do during a day.

When time is scarce, I have been looking for ways to make the ways I use my time more efficient. Not in the way of doing more multitasking ;), because I already do too much of that. Haha. But to make sure that the things I invest my time into actually add value to my days.

Scrolling Isn’t Resting

One thing that I have been working on to do less at the end of my day is spending time on my phone. Using the phone is not all bad, there is a time to respond to messages and things like that but spending a lot of time on the phone without being productive is not restful for me.

So this blog post is for me. Mostly. I need strategies to spend less time on my phone and find other things that I can do instead. So this is a part of my process of spending less time scrolling and you are invited into that.

Maybe you too find it hard to limit your time on your phone, so let’s do this together.

20 Things To Do Instead Of Being On Your Phone

Firstly, let’s see what things to do instead of being on our phones. I made an image with some of my favorite things to do that I will have on my phone as wallpaper for some time, just to be reminded to spend less time on my phone.

But we are all different and like to do different things so here is a list of things to do instead of being on your phone:

Finding Ways To Rest As A Mom

Sometimes I get caught in this mindset of trying to optimize my day in a way that I get the most done possible. I multitask and try to meet every need around me. As a mom that is almost impossible. There are always more needs that could be met.

Finding time to rest after becoming a mom has become another thing that I need to write down on my calendar. If I don’t plan for it it won’t happen.

Filling my days with a lot of things, striving to reach new goals, etc has always been fun for me. Before becoming a mom, I didn’t leave a lot of space for resting during my days, Monday to Friday, because I knew that in some way I could find time to rest soon during the weekend.

Becoming a mom I wasn’t really prepared for the intensity it can bring. At least with smaller kids, it seems that you always need to be prepared for a night with little sleep. When your babies and toddlers get sick or in other ways need their mommy you can’t just take time to rest whenever.

During weekends, life doesn’t calm down, we still need to care for our family. Weekends are not restful in the same way as before. So I have needed to rethink my approach to resting.

Doing Something Creative Just For Fun

Before becoming a mom I saw rest as not doing much at all. Taking time to sleep in and not plan much for my days off. Now, my mind as a mom is so full of to-do lists and tasks that need to get done so actually trying to not do anything can make me more stressed than relaxed. 😀

Lately, I have found that I also feel very rested if I do something creative, just for the fun of it. Baking just because it’s restful or knitting something just for fun.

So different seasons in life require different ways of rest.

Maybe printing out some coloring pages so that you have them ready when you need them can be helpful. Or starting that knitting project or starting to read a new book when you have a little energy so that you just can pick up where you left it whenever.

Some of the things on the list are more time-consuming than others so depending on how much time you have, choose something that works for you.

On this website, we have published so many different coloring pages and some of our most popular coloring pages that we have published thus far are the ones with butterflies.

Butterflies are so colorful so I understand that coloring pages with butterflies are popular.

As butterfly coloring pages are so popular I think these origami butterflies can be really fun to make. This is really easy origami and only requires a few folds so even smaller kids can learn how to make them.

Origami Butterfly Step-By-Step

Here is a free printable that you can download for free and cut out to start making an origami butterfly.

When you have printed out the coloring sheet you can start coloring the wings of the butterfly.

When the wings are colored it’s time to start folding.

Keep the colored side of the paper upwards and fold the paper in half both ways into rectangles.

Flip the paper so the colored side is facing down. Fold the paper on the diagonal both ways.

Fold the paper as the images show here below.

Fold the wings upwards on both sides as shown on the images.

Turn over and fold the black part over the edge.

Now, fold the butterfly so the colored wings face each other.

And your butterfly is ready!

Finding Joy In Being Creative

I have always really enjoyed doing creative things like crafts and knitting and things like that. My sisters are not like that, they don’t enjoy knitting like I do. Knitting makes them more stressed than relaxed.

But my sisters like to be creative in other ways like cooking and baking. I think all of us enjoy being creative in different ways, not all of us enjoy handicrafts but there are so many different ways to be creative.

One way of being creative, that I thought I never really would find much enjoyment in, is writing. But these last couple years as I have been working on this blog I have found that writing also can be quite fun.

Blogging is a very light-hearted way of writing and adding some photography to that it is actually really nice to write a blog post.

I don’t know how you like to be creative but we don’t want to make it seem like doing crafts and coloring are the only way to be creative. There are so many different ways that we get to create new things!

Finding Inspiration To Be Creative

Right now as this blog post is getting published we are in the middle of the fall season here in Sweden where we live. Going out in nature is such a good way to find inspiration to be creative.

The earth is so full of beauty. God creates everything in such an amazing way!

The Creator Of The Universe Decided To Create You

I think it is such a cool reminder that the one that created the wide seas and the high mountains and the smallest details on the butterflies and flowers also decided to create us.

Sometimes I have had an easier time seeing the beauty in all the things around me in creation than seeing beauty in the way god made me. But God created every person in such a fearful and wonderful way.

The creativity that God has is never-ending. God could choose to create anything and he decided to create this earth and the people in it and he saw that it was so good.

“And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.”
Genesis 1:31

God is so happy with you! You are so valuable in his eyes. Your life has a purpose and you can reflect God in a way no one else can!

Looking For Easy Craft Ideas?

This last weekend we were talking about Paul who was bitten by a snake in Sunday school in our church and I was looking for a simple craft activity that we could do with the kids.

In our church, we have kids of different ages so the craft activities we do are often quite simple so that even smaller kids can enjoy them. This craft activity is simple to make but the paper cup and ball game is quite fun even for older kids so it is a craft idea that can work for kids of different ages.

Several years ago, when we started this website, we posted a few blog posts on some easy craft ideas and since then I have realized that the craft activities that we appreciate most as a family are the ones that aren’t too complicated.

Right now, we have a seven-year-old, a four-year-old, and a one-year-old so at those younger ages, kids tend to not have that much patience but they really enjoy doing something creative. So the craft activities that we do are simple.

Paper Cup And Ball Game

This paper cup and ball game is simple and also another fun thing about it is that you will have a fun thing to play with when you are ready.

At least our seven and four-year-old really like to play with them. Depending of the age of the child, you can make the string shorter or longer. The longer the string, the harder it will be to get the ball to go into the cup.

You can choose to decorate your cup in so many different ways. As I said, we made ours look like snakes, just because we had talked about snakes in Sunday School but you could choose something entirely different.

What You Need To Make A Paper Cup And Ball Game

The things you need to do this craft activity aren’t that many and you might have most of these things at home already.

The things we used were:

• paper cup
• colored paper
• styrofoam ball
• string
• eyes
• scissors
• glue

Depending on the size and shape of the paper cup, you will need to cut the colored paper into a shape that folds nicely around your cup.

The green paper that I cut out had a shape like the one here below on a paper of the size A4. But Depending on the shape of your cup you might have to cut the colored paper a little bit differently.

When you have your colored paper for the cup ready and cut out, use some glue to wrap the paper around your cup.

To tie the string around the styrofoam ball, I made a small cut into the ball to make the string stay at it’s place.

You will need to make a hole in the paper cup to pull the string through.

When you have pulled the string through the hole, you could make a knot or use tape to fasten the string under the cup.

Now, we have come to the fun part. This cup can be decorated in so many different ways. With a couple of eyes and a tongue you will have a simple snake. Then you can add stripes or dots or something more to your snake if you want.

This game was popular among our kids. The game is quite addictive, it was hard to get our seven-year-old stop playing with it last night at bedtime. 😉

The Meaning Behind Wonderfully Made

The name of this website comes from this Bible verse.

“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
    your works are wonderful,
    I know that full well.”

Psalm 139:14

The name of this website is in Swedish. Underbart skapad are the Swedish words for wonderfully made.

Psalm 139 and verse 14 was the starting point for this website. In the beginning of the Bible, we can read about how God created this whole universe. We can see so much of who God is in everything that he has made.

God is such an amazing creator. Out in nature, we can be amazed by the high mountains and tall trees. In comparison to all these enormous things that God has made we can feel so small. God is so big!

We can also see the tiny details on flowers and leaves. God creates with so much precision. God really creates in such a fearful and wonderful way.

God also made you in such a wonderful way. We hope that this website will be a place where we can share our joy in being creative and also that we will be reminded of who our creator is and why he made us.

God made you with so much precision and intention. Your life has a purpose.

Having a baby in the house always makes me look for unbreakable options for the home decor we have around our house.

Our soon-to-be one-year-old likes dirt, flowers, and plants. So having unbreakable plant holders is a win in our house.

I like the home decor to be not so fragile, but still, I like it to be pretty. So as I was looking for plant holders that don’t break I saw these crocheted ones made with jute tread and I really liked the look of them.

I like crocheting, so I got the idea to make my own so they would be the right size that I was looking for.

These crocheted plant holders were really easy to make so I thought I would share the pattern with you!

Crochet Plant Holder – FREE Pattern

Start with making a chain of 6 air loops and make them into a circle by doing a slip stitch in the first stitch.

Then start going round:
(I crocheted this planter only in the back loop, but that is up to you what you prefer)

Round 1: 2 sc in every stitch
Round 2: 2 sc in ever other stitch
Round 3: * 2 sc in one stitch, 1 sc in the next two stitches* repeat
Round 4: *2 sc in one stitch, 1 sc in the next three stitches* repeat
Round 5: *2 sc in one stitch, 1 sc in the next four stitches* repeat
Round 6: * 2 sc in one stich, 1 sc in the next five stitches* repeat

Keep on going round and round like that until you have the size of the bottom of the planter that you wish for.

Then its time for the “walls” on the planter:

Crochet 1 sc in every stitch, crochet round and round until you have the hight on the planter that you want.

Blowing soap bubbles is something that usually is associated with summer. But this year we have realized that it is fun with soap bubbles in the middle of winter as well.

Our kids are really fascinated by soap bubbles. Blowing soap bubbles always seem to cheer them up! During winter, soap bubbles are extra interesting because they slowly freeze when they hit the ground.

We have a one-year-old son, He spends quite much time in the stroller. He has not yet really understood the delight of building snowmen and other things that his big sister is doing. So blowing bubbles keeps Him entertained for at least a little while, when his big sister is skiing!

If you have small kids, this is an activity worth trying!

To make the soap bubbles extra durable, we add a little bit of syrup into the solution. Here is the recipe we use:

The Best Homemade Bubble Solution – Easy Recipe

3 dl water

1 dl dish soap

0.25 dl syrup

Mix all the ingredients. Wait a couple of hours before use to make the bubbles more durable.

For older children and parents, it’s fun to try to get nice photos of the soap bubbles. If they do not crack when they reach the snow, they slowly freeze. That makes a beautiful pattern form on the bubbles!

Soup bubbles are so beautiful when they fall to the ground. The bubbles slowly freeze and the pattern it creates is truly so so amazing.

Definitely worth trying.

If you want to only take pictures of the freezing bubbles I would leave the syrup out of the mix. That way the bubbles freeze faster.
