12 Encouraging Bible Verses About Forgiveness
Here are some encouraging Bible verses about forgiveness.
As sons and daughters, we are part of our Father’s plan of saving and redeeming us! Let’s look at some Bible verses that reveal God’s heart for this broken world and see what this actually means to us.
12 Bible Verses About Forgiveness
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
John 3:16
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. Because of God’s love for us, he decided to send his Son to earth to die for us so that we wouldn’t perish but have eternal life.
I heard someone say a few days ago that, if you were the only person on earth, God would still send His son to die for you.
I think it is sometimes easy to think that God sent His son to die for all of us, to save all mankind is a big thing. But would it be worth it for Jesus to die if it only was to save one person?
I do think that God values each and every one of us very much! We can read in the Bible about the lost sheep. When one sheep is lost the shepherd leaves the other sheep, just to go look for one lost sheep. (Matthew 18:12-)
God values every life so much! He values the salvation of every person so much!
Jesus died for you!
“Therefore, my friends, I want you to know that through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you.”
Acts 13:38
Forgiveness is nothing that we deserve through doing the right things. Forgiveness is given to us through Jesus.
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
1 John 1:9
“If we confess our sins… He forgives us our sins.” When we confess, He forgives. Even if Jesus won the victory on the cross we also need to decide of we want to receive his forgiveness. We need to repent, we need to confess so that He can forgive!
You are Redeemed
“It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption.”
1 Corinthians 1:30
“In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace.”
Ephesians 1:7
The Bible states over and over again that it is through Jesus that we receive forgiveness. We have redemption through his blood.
“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”
Gal 2:20
The life I now live, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
John 19:30
“When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.”
It is finished! Jesus has made all things new! All who confess their sins are forgiven! The choice is ours but Jesus already did all there had to be done! Repentance is key. God always leaves the choice up to us!
You are a New Creation
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”
2 Corinthians 5:17
If anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: the old has gone, the new is here! When we choose to follow Jesus we are made new.
“Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator. Here there is no Gentile or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all.”
Colossians 3:9-11
When we follow Jesus we get to take off our old self and put on a new self, we are renewed in the knowledge in the image of its Creator.
“Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”
Romans 12:2
There is a transformation taking place as we start living according to truth! The new creation has come! The new is here! We need to keep choosing truth over lies! Letting God reveal lies we live by is crucial for us to be transformed by the renewing of our mind!
Never too Far Gone
“I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength, that he considered me trustworthy, appointing me to his service. Even though I was once a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent man, I was shown mercy because I acted in ignorance and unbelief. The grace of our Lord was poured out on me abundantly, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.
Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst. But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his immense patience as an example for those who would believe in him and receive eternal life. Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen.”
1 Timothy 1:12-17
“Even though I was once a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent man, I was shown mercy because I acted in ignorance and unbelief”. Saul of Tarsus, later known by the name Paul had a history of persecuting the people that followed Jesus.
“The grace of our Lord was poured out on me abundantly, along with the faith and the love that are in Christ Jesus.” Paul says in 1 Timothy 1:14 that the grace of God was poured out on him.
Paul’s story really shows that there is no person that is too far gone. God’s grace is sufficient for everyone. Paul had his life changed by God’s grace.
There is no person who is too far gone if they repent and give their lives to Jesus. The grace of God is poured out over the people that repent.
The grace of God is sufficient for you.
