“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
John 3:16

One of the most known Bible verses from the whole Bible is John chapter 3, verse 16. This verse tells us the gospel in a few words.

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

In Genesis, we can read how God created the earth and that it was so good. We can also read how Adam and Eve chose to eat the forbidden fruit, by doing so they chose to not obey God.

Sin entered the world and therefore we live in a broken world. But God chose to send his only son to die for us so that everyone who believes in Jesus wouldn’t perish but have eternal life.

“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”
John 15:13

Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. The sacrificial love that we can see in the story of God sending his own son to earth to die for us is so deep.

Bible Verses About Love – He Loved Us First

We can see how deep God’s love is for us throughout the Bible.

“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
Romans 5:8

So we can rely on the love God has for us. God is love. God loves us in an unconditional way. When we let God define what is love, we have a very firm foundation to stand on. There is no greater love than the love Jesus demonstrated on the cross.

While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. God doesn’t love us because we deserve it. God’s love for us is not based on our performances but on who we are.

“And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.”
1 John 4:16

When we get to know who God is, we get to know a love that transforms us. God’s love has the power to transform the way that we see the world, the people around us and ourselves.

“Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.”
1 John 4:8

God is love, getting to know God will transform us.

We Love Because He First Loved Us

“We love because He first loved us.”
1 John 4:19

Everything we do, we get to do through him. We get to love others because God loves us.

“For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.”
2 Timothy 1:7

Through the Holy Spirit, we get to grow in power, love and self-discipline.

“There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.”
1 John 4:18

The love that God has for us drives out fear. We get to live through love and not be driven by fear when we lean into God’s love for us.

Bible Verses About A Transformative Love.

“But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.”
Matthew 5:44

The Bible tells us to even love our enemies, it tells us to pray for those who persecute us. Jesus died for us while we were still sinners. When Jesus was crucified he prayed for the people that crucified him.

Jesus set the example of how we get to live in a broken world. We get to be a part of reflecting the unconditional love God has for us to other people.

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.”
1 Corinthians 13:4-5

1 Corinthians chapter 13 is often quoted at weddings. Love is patient and kind. Love doesn’t envy or boast, it isn’t proud. Love doesn’t dishonor others or is self-seeking, it is not easily angered and it keeps no records of wrongs.

A Different Kind Of Love

This world tries to define love in so many different ways. If we go to the Bible to find the definition we will be challenged by the love that we have been shown through Christ.

The Bible tells us that God is love. The Bible also tells us that God is eternal and never changes. So there is a love that is unconditional and that never will change.

Love doesn’t come and go. It doesn’t change and it will never cease.
