Here are some Bible verses about the goodness of God to remind us that God has our very best interest in mind.
Learning to trust that God really is who the Bible says he is, has the power to change the way we live our lives.
If we truly to our core believe that God is all-knowing and has our very best interest in mind, it’s easy to invite him, not only when life is tough but also to go first to him with both small and bigger decisions we need to make.
I was once challenged with the question: Do you really believe what you believe that you believe? At first, I thought it was a strange question. Of course, I knew what my beliefs were!? But soon I realized that I had a hard time letting go of control and fully trusting that God knew what was best for me.
If I had a hard time fully trusting in God and trusting that He had my best interest in mind, it also meant that I actually didn’t fully believe that God is good.
But the Bible is very clear on the fact that God is good. And God will never change. Here are some Bible verses about that.
Bible Verses About The Goodness Of God In The Psalms
“Oh, how abundant is your goodness, which you have stored up for those who fear you and worked for those who take refuge in you, in the sight of the children of mankind!” Psalms 31:19
The goodness of God is mentioned many times in the Psalms. Psalm 31, 34, 107 and 119 are just a few examples.
“Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!” Psalm 34:8
Taste and see that the Lord is good. Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him. When we trust in God and put our trust in him, we will see that God truly is good. The word of God speaks about God’s goodness but we can also experience it ourselves when let go of control and let Him guide us.
“Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever!” Psalm 107:1
Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever! God’s love for us endures forever. God is eternal and will always stay the same.
“You are good and do good; teach me your statutes.” Psalm 119:68
God is good and does good. “Teach me your statues.” the Psalmist says. God gets to form us and transform us.
God’s Goodness In The Old and New Testament
“And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good.” Genesis 1:30
Even from the very beginning of the Bible, we can read about how God created this earth and how he saw that what he had created was very good. The earth he had created reflected his character.
“Moses said, “Please show me your glory.” And he said, “I will make all my goodness pass before you and will proclaim before you my name ‘The Lord.’ And I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show mercy on whom I will show mercy.”” Exodus 33:18-19
In Exodus, we can read how Moses asked God to show him his glory. God answered that he would make all his goodness pass before him. In the next verse, in verse 20, God says that Moses couldn’t see his face because no one can see the face of God and live. God’s glory is so great that we can’t see his face and live.
“The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; he knows those who take refuge in him.” Nahum 1:7
“And rend your hearts and not your garments. Return to the Lord your God, for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love; and he relents over disaster.” Joel 2:13
“The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.” Zephaniah 3:17
The Prophets in the Old Testament speak about the goodness of God.
The Goodness Of God In The New Testament
“But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8
The New Testament starts with the four gospels that tell us the incredible story of God sending his son to earth to die for our sins. God’s unconditional love for us makes his goodness so evident to us.
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.” Galatians 5:22-23
Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control are fruits of the spirit of God. All these things reflect who God is. And through the Holy Spirit, these things get to grow in our lives.
When We Believe God Is Good It’s Easy To Trust Him
Soo.. back to the introduction. When we believe that God is good it is easy to trust him. I think that our relationship with God actually isn’t that different from any other relationship.
We won’t trust a person before we get to know them. Even if our best friend says that a person is trustworthy, if we don’t know them personally, we will have a hard time trusting them.
So to fully trust God I think we need to get to know him personally. Through reading his word, praying and letting him have his say in the decisions we make, we get to know him and when our relationship with him gets tighter we will grow in our trust in him.
