How To Start A Healthy Lifestyle – 1 Timothy 4:8
How to start a healthy lifestyle? The Bible gives us answers about most things. Here are some thoughts about how to live healthily.
Since we are small, we are thought to eat vegetables, brush our teeth, have good habits, behave well, and have good manners. Usually, we work hard to do that in front of other people. But what about when nobody sees us?
“For bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come.”
1 Timothy 4:8
In 1 Timothy 4:8, we find that the Bible highlights that physical training is of some value, and then the verse continues that godliness is profitable for all things.
You and I know that doing exercise is good for our bodies, maybe because we were taught so by our parents or teachers, or maybe we read so somewhere in a magazine or in a scientific article and we have even experienced better condition, more strength, more fit, less sickness when we have been physically active.
I have experienced as a child and as a teenager that exercise is good for the body. Especially as a teenager, I spent a lot of time exercising but my motivation was not healthy. My motivation for doing exercise at that time was to look good and I was searching for some kind of acceptance from others. The focus was on the outside, I wanted to look fit.
At that time I wanted to be known as being athletic and fit. The Bible has been really eye-opening for me when it comes to the motivation behind what we do. The Bible highlights that exercise is good for us even before scientific articles were done. But it is said in the light that there is something even greater to aim for.
The verse in 1 Timothy 4:8 talks about godliness. In dictionary.com it says about godliness that “To be wise is to live in godliness, reflecting the nature of the kingdom of God in the course of everyday life..”
We are called to reflect the kingdom of God in everyday life.
How to Start a Healthy Lifestyle
We see in the bible that the motivation behind what we do is so very important.
So my question to you is: Are there areas in your life where you are giving a lot of focus with motivations that are not giving God the glory?
My encouragement to you is to take some time to reflect on this.
God is interested in every area of your life. He longs to be with you through it all. He cares about all of you and everything that you do.
He wants to be with you through all the ups and downs of everyday life. He wants to help you form habits that are good for you!
God is your creator and knows you so well! You are so loved by him!
And also, if we decide to give God the glory. If we want to reflect his kingdom in our everyday life, we will live a healthier life.
God created us to be in a relationship with him. Praising God is part of our design!
