Bible Verses For The New Year

Here are some Bible verses for the New Year that can help you reflect on what God has for you this coming year.

Starting the new year asking God what he has for us is one way to know that we start the year focusing on the things that God wants us to focus on.

Giving him space to highlight things for us through his word for the specific time that we are living in is very helpful when we want to make sure that we are heading in the direction God has for us.

God cares so much for us, he wants to guide us in the small and big things of our lives. Making sure he has the space in our hearts to speak to us is a good start when we enter a new year.

God wants to be a part of all the parts of our lives. He wants to meet us as we seek direction for a new season. Seeking God first and later choosing direction and start taking steps based on the things God has put on our hearts, makes us live in the way God intended for us to live.

Bible Verses For The New Year

The Bible is full of wisdom. Entering a new season, some of us may long for wisdom in important decisions we need to make. Others might be in a harder season and need some words of encouragement.

Depending on the season you are in, if you are faced with a lot of challenges, or if you need to make important life choices, you can know that God sees you and he knows what is in your heart.

We hope that these following Bible verses will be an encouragement to you. If something stands out as you are reading, take that with you to the end of the blog post where you will find a printable worksheet where you can write down some thoughts and prayers for the months ahead.

Bible Verses In Isaiah For The New Year

“Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.”
Isaiah 43:18-19

“See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”
Isaiah 43:19

Isaiah chapter 43 was an encouragement for Israel during a hard time spent in the Babylonian captivity. As the circumstances around them were discouraging, God spoke about the things that were to come.

Verse 18 talks about not remembering the old things. If we get stuck on things of the past, maybe moments that we know we failed and that feel discouraging to us, we won’t have faith in the promises that lie ahead of us.

Not dwelling on the past and letting God’s truth fill us with faith for the things he has for us this coming year can be a way to not be trapped in fear and choose faith.

“Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
Isaiah 40:30-31

Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles. When eagles soar, they depend on the streams of air that keep them flying and soaring. When we soar on wings like eagles, we get to depend on God’s strength instead of our own.

Letting God Renew Us

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”
2 Corinthians 5:17

When we choose to let the word of God transform us we become a new creation. Our hearts are transformed in ways that we never will go back to our former way of thinking about things.

“You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.”
Ephesians 4:22-24

As we are entering a new season there is always an opportunity to let God show us if there is something in our lives that we need to let go of.

Maybe there is a habit we have that isn’t fully serving us well or an Instagram account that we follow whose content makes us more discouraged than encouraged. We might have to unfollow some things and change a few habits in order to fully lean into and prepare for the things that lie ahead.

“Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.”
Colossians 3:9-10

Maybe there are ways we talk that aren’t uplifting for others. Entering a new season can be a great way to do things in a new way and not continue in our old footsteps.

Sing To The Lord A New Song

“Sing to the LORD a new song, for he has done marvelous things; his right hand and his holy arm have worked salvation for him.”
Psalms 98:1

Through everything we do, we get to give the glory to our Lord and Savior. Keeping him in the center of our attention and not trying to get praise for the things that we achieve keeps us from letting pride take room in our hearts.
