How To Knit A Scrunchie – FREE Knitting Pattern
Here is a very simple free knitting pattern on how to knit a simple scrunchie. This is a really easy knitting project for beginners.
September is here, and so is fall. The colder weather has already come to your part of the world. This morning, fog covered most of the view from our windows. I know, everyone doesn’t agree with me on this, but I really like this time of year!
I think one of the best things about early fall is the coziness it brings. The colder weather makes us use sweaters, blankets, and light candles. For me, this is the best time of year!
If you aren’t as excited for fall as I am, I will try to share some of my excitement through this blog post.
Knitting Inspiration
September is, of course, the perfect time to pull out your knitting projects.
I happen to be at this really rare phase of knitting when I don’t have any ongoing knitting project. Most of the time, I tend to have a couple of knitting projects laying around, but this summer I have worked hard to finish the knitting projects that I had going on, so now I get to start new ones without feeling guilty that I have not finished previous projects.
To start off this fall, I knitted a really fast and easy project that I hadn’t knitted before, and that was a scrunchie. The last couple of months, I have been back working as a physiotherapist, and that means I can’t wear my hair down at work.
So I was looking up inspiration on Pinterest and a pin with a knitted scrunchie came up. It looked very cute, so I decided to knit one myself.
How To Knit a Scrunchie
The yarn I used for this scrunchie was wool and suitable for needles of size 3.

To start making this scrunchie, I cast on approximately 100 stitches. If I would knit another one, I would have cast on even more stitches, maybe around 140, just to make the scrunchie a bit more wrinkly.

After casting on the stitches, I divided them up on four double pointed needles. And then I just knitted in the round until the piece was 5 cm tall.

When all stitches are masked off it’s time to make the scrunchie into a tube.

Before closing the last few cm pull through an elastic band of the diameter you want the scrunchie to be.

Close the whole and you’re done! 🙂

Different Kind Of Knit Scrunchies
I guess it’s obvious that you can knit so many different kinds of scrunchies. You can use different kinds of yarn och different kinds of thickness.
The color you choose is of course, up to you. So even if this is such an easy pattern, I think it’s possible to have lots of fun with it.
So, if you want a really fast knitting project to start your fall, here it is!

If you are looking for more knitting inspiration, feel free to follow this link to see other knitting-related content that we have published on our website: https://underbartskapad.com/category/diy-en-en/knitting-patterns-en-en/
A new fun thing that is knitting-related that I have discovered is an app called Stitchart, where you can make your own knitting charts. This is an app that makes it so easy to design your own colorwork knit projects.
I am really hoping to be able to have fun with that app this fall. Last spring we saw these really cool northern lights when we visited my family in Finland and that left me with the idea to knit something with the pattern of northern lights.
Let’s see if I can manage to do that. If I succeed, I will most definitely post about that here on the blog so stay tuned.
We hope you will have a blessed start of your fall and have lots of fun knitting.
Many greetings from us at Wonderfully Made
