Promises Of God In The Bible
There are so many promises of God in the Bible.
“God keeps every promise he makes. He is like a shield for all who seek his protection.”
Proverbs 30:5 GNT
God is a promise keeper. God is such a good Father and he has so many good plans for us. He is so faithful to us.
Even if we know who God is and that he is a good Father who wants what’s best for us, life can be hard and confusing sometimes.
If we know the promises of God, life will be easier to navigate. Especially on days that are harder, it is so good to remind ourselves of the promises that God has given us.
When our circumstances are hard and complicated and the world looks so dark, we can wonder where God is in the midst of that.
Knowing His Promises When Life Is Hard
Sometimes we might have expectations of God that aren’t in line with who God is.
There is a popular verse in Romans chapter 8.
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
Romans 8:28
Sometimes, I think this verse is taken as a promise that life will be easy for the people who love him. If we choose to follow Jesus and give our life to him, life will be easy.
It is important to remember that it’s Paul that says these words. Paul did live fully for Jesus, he knew that God is a good Father but he also knew life wasn’t easy.
Paul was beaten, arrested, interrogated, and ridiculed, he was shipwrecked and got bitten by a snake. Life for him was not smooth sailing.
So when Paul says that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, he knows that God is the same in both easy times and hardships. God did not promise us an easy life but God will always stay the same and he will stay at our side.
God Is Not Confused
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
Jeremiah 29:11
Life can be confusing but God is not confused, God knows the plans he has for us.
God knows who he is and who we were made to be. In the Bible, we can read about who he is and get to know his character.
In the Bible, there are also a lot of statements and promises. God is faithful to us. God is a promise keeper. When we know the promises of God we know what we can expect from life and from him.
Promises Of God In The Bible
“For this God is our God for ever and ever;
Psalm 48:14
he will be our guide even to the end.”
God is our God forever and ever. God will always be God and he will never change. God wants to guide us. God is not annoyed when we seek his guidance, he loves to guide us.
“So do not fear, for I am with you;
Isaiah 41:10
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
God will strengthen you and help you, he will uphold you with his righteous right hand.
God Is With Us
“If you love me, keep my commands. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.”
John 14:15-17
We can truly know him, he is with us.
“For I am the Lord your God
Isaiah 41:13
who takes hold of your right hand
and says to you, Do not fear;
I will help you.”
We don’t need to fear, He will help us.
God Will Advice Us And Make Our Paths Straight
“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go;
Psalm 32:8
I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.”
God wants to instruct us and teach us on the way we should go. He will advice us.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart
Proverbs 3:4-5
and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.”
When we submit our ways to him, he will make our paths straight.
“The Lord will guide you always;
Isaiah 58:11
he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land
and will strengthen your frame.
You will be like a well-watered garden,
like a spring whose waters never fail.”
The Lord will guide you always, He will satisfy our needs.
He Has Compassion On Us And Will Always Love You
“You will again have compassion on us;
Micah 7:18-19
you will tread our sins underfoot
and hurl all our iniquities into the depths of the sea.”
He will have compassion on you. He sent his son to die for us.
“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good.
Psalm 136:1-3
His love endures forever.
Give thanks to the God of gods.
His love endures forever.
Give thanks to the Lord of lords:
His love endures forever.“
God loves you. He will always love you.
“Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments.”
Deuteronomy 7:9
He will be faithful to you.
“The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”
Deuteronomy 31:8
He will never leave you or forsake you.
If You Stumble, You Will Not Fall
“The LORD makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him; though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the LORD upholds him with his hand.”
Psalm 37:23-24
When we delight in him, though you may stumble, you will not fall.
“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.”
Ephesians 2:8-9
You are saved by grace.
You Are Forgiven And Redeemed
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”
1 John 1:9
Your sins are forgiven, he purifies us from all unrighteousness.
“In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace that he lavished on us.”
Ephesians 1:7-8
In him we have redemption through his blood. You are redeemed.
“But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.”
1 John 1:9
If we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive. You are cleansed from all wickedness.
Jesus Set You Free, You Are Free Indeed
“So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”
John 8:36
When his son sets you free, you are free indeed.
“But he was pierced for our rebellion,
Isaiah 53:5
crushed for our sins.
He was beaten so we could be whole.
He was whipped so we could be healed.”
He was beaten so that you can be whole, he was whipped som that you can be healed.
“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”
James 1:5
If you ask for wisdom it will be given to you.
“This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.”
1 John 5:14
He will listen to your prayers. God listens to you.
Jesus Gives Himself To You
“Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
John 14:6
Jesus is truth. The truth is found in Jesus. We can know the truth and live by it.
“When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.””
John 8:12
Jesus is light. When we follow him, we will have the light of life.
Jesus tells us that he is all these amazing things and that he will be with us.
A lot of the promises of God have more to do with who God is than what he can give you.
God’s promises are not only about what he can give to us, God promises himself to us.
“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
Romans 5:8
Sometimes in our lives, we can be like, if you do this for me, if you fix this thing for me… then I will believe that you are God.
We don’t need God to do a single more thing than what he has already done.
Jesus became the sacrificial lamb for all of us. The victory is won, and death is defeated. We are forgiven and we are his.
So if we want to rest on promises that are not empty, then know that the promises of God are not empty.
If God Gives Us A Promise, We Need To Know It
When we know what God promises, we know who he is and how to stay firm when life is confusing.
We will know what is true and realize when a lie is presented to us.
We can know when an empty promise is presented to us.
A Lot Of God’s Promises Has To Do With Seeking Him First
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest”
Matthew 11:28
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”
Proverbs 3:5-6
Many times in the Bible we see that that we need to come to Jesus and trust in God in order to receive his promises.
The choice of seeking him is up to us. Jesus can’t give us his peace and love if we don’t seek him.
Living In The Promises Of God
So when we know all the things that God promises us we also need to seek him and trust in him in order to receive them.
You are loved and you are forgiven. You are a child to the creator of the universe. God sees you and he wants to live life with you.
When life gets hard, your God is still equally faithful and good. The character of God doesn’t change with our circumstances.
