Encouraging Bible Verses

Bible Verses About Autumn And Harvest

When this blog post is published we are in mid-August and I think it is okay to start thinking about fall. Fall is and has always been the best season of the year if you ask me. So when fall is getting closer I tend to be very excited and I start looking forward to it way too soon. 😀

I love that the days get cooler and that the trees are full of color. At least the first months of fall are beautiful, November might not be my favorite month of the year as it gets so dark and rainy where we live.

But anyway, right now, in the middle of August, it feels exciting to go into a new season. I don’t know if you are with me on the excitement but I hope I can pass on some of it through this blog post to you if you are in need of some encouragement.

There Is A Time For Everything

The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.
Isaiah 40:8

As seasons change, we know that the word of God will stand forever. No matter the season. No matter if life is easy or if it is challenging, we can know that the word of God always will be our guide. The truth of the Bible will never change.

If you are very excited for the months to come you can know that God is there with you. If you know this fall will bring challenges, you can also know that God wants to be there for you and that his word and who he is never changes.

God will always be a loving father that wants to share every moment with you.

“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.”
Ecclesiastes 3:1

There is a time for everything.

I am a mother of three children, our oldest daughter is now seven years old. I have spent most of these last seven years at home taking care of our babies. These last few years, fall time hasn’t been as much of a season of new projects as before.

Depending on the phase in life we are in, stepping into fall can look so different, some years it might feel like we are not really entering something new. And that is okay. There is a time for everything.

I love that I have been able to be at home taking care of our children. I am so thankful for these last few years. There is so much to learn in every season. There are always both easy things and harder things that come with every season.

These last few years I have understood that it is okay to miss the easiness of life before having children and at the same time know that this season is so purposeful.

Knowing God Is In Control

“Be patient, then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop, patiently waiting for the autumn and spring rains.”
Psalm 65:12-13

Farmers really get to learn how to make the most of each season. When it’s time to sow, they get to do their best in planning how to sow that season. And during summer they give their best in taking care of everything that is growing and as fall comes, they get to harvest.

Knowing what season we are in and knowing what is important to focus on in every season will lead to a successful harvest.

I am trying to learn how to care for every season in the best way. It can be hard sometimes not to want to skip directly to the next season. I have learned that I am not the most patient person. I thought I had a lot of patience and then I became a mom and now I know that I have a lot of growing to do. 😀

There is so much in life that isn’t in our control. Most things were never meant to be in our control. A lot of the timing of things is in God’s control. So many times the best thing we can do is to just patiently wait for the right timing of things. Just as farmers have to wait for the land to yield its valuable crop.

Bible Verses About Autumn

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
Galatians 6:9

At proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up, therefore we can continue sowing and not become weary in doing good. Staying faithful in doing good will in its time lead to a harvest.

“As long as the earth endures,
seedtime and harvest,
cold and heat,
summer and winter,
day and night
will never cease.”
Genesis 8:22

As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter… will never cease.

This earth is created in a way that seasons come and seasons go. Life happens in cycles. There is a time for everything. We can rest in the fact that God is the one that created this whole universe and knows the season we are in.

Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness.
2 Corinthians 9:10

The Parable Of The Sower

As a lot of the Bible verses in this blog post are about sowing I was reminded of something God reminded me of a couple of months ago.

In Mark chapter 4 we can read about the parable of the sower. The seed is the word of God and the seeds that are sown fall into four different soils.

  1. Some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up.
  2. Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. When the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root.
  3. Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants, so that they did not bear grain.
  4. Some seed fell on good soil. It came up, grew and produced a crop, some multiplying thirty, some sixty, some a hundred times.

I think we all in different moments and seasons of life might fall into different categories.

What Are The Different Types Of Soil?

What then do these different types of soil mean? Jesus explains that further down in the chapter.

  1. Some people are like seed along the path, where the word is sown. As soon as they hear it, Satan comes and takes away the word that was sown in them.
  2. Seed sown on rocky places, hear the word and at once receive it with joy. But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away.
  3. Seed sown among thorns, hear the word; but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful.
  4. Seed sown on good soil, hear the word, accept it, and produce a crop—some thirty, some sixty, some a hundred times what was sown.

Even with the best intentions we can fall into any of these categories.

What stood out to me was how the seed that was sown on rocky places was described as when the word is received with joy. If we receive the word with joy, then it will bring a lot of good fruit, right?

But Jesus keeps on explaining that even if the word initially is received with joy it might just last for a short time if it has no root.

Sometimes we need to go through more challenging seasons so that we can become aware of the rocks that might be hindering God’s truth to really take root in our lives.

When life is hard we get to choose to still believe in who God is. God will always be good and worthy of our trust. Even when we don’t understand everything that is happening around us. The truth of who God is will never change. God will always stay the same.

Thirty, sixty and some a hundred times

When we hear the word and accept it, a crop is produced that is so much greater than the seed that was sown.

God multiplies the crop so many times over when we receive and accept it. That is such an encouraging reminder of how generous God is.

So we get to do our part in making the word of God our refuge and guide in every season of our lives, when life is easy and when it is hard. And in return, God will multiply the harvest so many times over.

God is always faithful and he is very generous.
