Bible Quotes About Love

The Bible says so much about love. Let’s take a look at some encouraging bible quotes about love.

Today it’s Valentine’s Day. As I went to the store here close to where we live this morning, I was reminded of that by all the flowers and pretty cards with hearts on meeting me in the entrance.

To be honest, Valentine’s Day has never been a day that I have celebrated very much. It’s not like I don’t think it is a nice opportunity to show appreciation to your loved ones, I guess I just haven’t thought much about forming traditions for that day.

Maybe I should, and maybe I need to, now as our children grow a little older and I know our oldest daughter is very aware of the fact that this day is a little bit special so I guess this year would be a good year to start thinking about how to show people around me, and our children, that they are loved.

In Finland, where I grew up, Valentine’s Day is actually called “Friendsday”. We greet eachother with “Happy Friendsday” the 14th of February so I am used to think about Valentine’s Day as a day to show both friends and family that they are appreciated. In some cultures Valentine’s Day might be more of a romantic day for couples.

What about you, do you celebrate Valentine’s Day? If so, feel free to help me out and leave your best Valentine’s Day tradition in the comments! I could need some inspiration.

Encouraging Bible Quotes About Love

One place to get some inspiration for cards etc is of course the Bible. The Bible talks so much about love. So if you, like me, are in need of a reminder of what the Bible says about love. Let’s take a look.

“We love because he first loved us.”

1 John 4:19

We love because he first loved us. God is the origin of love. We can love others because we have seen it modeled to us through Him.

“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good.
His love endures forever.

Psalm 136:1

The Lord is good, His love endures forever! God’s love never fails. God will never change. God will always be a loving God. God created you with so much love and He will continue blessing you with so much love.

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

Joh 3:16

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son so that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. Sending His one and only son to die for us was the ultimate sacrifice that shows how deep God’s love and mercy are for us.

God sent his son to die so that you would not perish but have eternal life.

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.”

1 Corinthians 13:4-8

When we read the Bible we can see it all through the Bible that love is patient, love is kind. Love does not envy, it does not boast. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking. Love is not easily angered, and it keeps no record of wrongs.

Love does not delight in evil but it rejoices with the truth. Love always protects, hopes, and perseveres. Love never fails.

Do Everything In Love

“Do everything in love.”

1 Corinthians 16:14

Just as God does everything in love. We get to do everything in love. Doing everything in love is quite a challenge sometimes.

If we read 1 Corinthians 16:14 alongside 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 we can understand more about how doing everything in love looks in real life. Let’s do things with patience and kindness. Let’s not envy, boast, or be easily angered.

Doing everything in love can be easier said than done. Before becoming a mom I thought I had lots of patience and I still view myself as a person that values patience very much. But I have learned that lack of sleep and time to think straight, I do not always act with patience.

Being a parent has challenged me in ways nothing else in life had challenged me before. Now we have three small children and I still every day know that God wants to teach me a lot more about patience. There are moments when I just have to surrender and do my best to let his patience be my patience. I am not always enough and that is okay because I know He is.

So, if you are a mom and sometimes struggle to act with patience, know that you are not alone. And remember that God is there in the midst of it and wants to help you be patient when your own patience is not enough.
