Bible Verses About The Goodness Of God

Here are some encouraging Bible verses about the goodness of God.

There is so much in the Bible that tells us about who God is. Through the things he does, we can see who he is. We can also read about people who have walked with him and obeyed him and who testify of how they have experienced his goodness.

When God created the earth he said when it was finished that the creation was good. He created so much beauty and he also created us in a way so that we can enjoy all the things that he created.

When we continue reading we can see how Adam and Eve didn’t obey God. They ate from the tree God had told them not to eat from. And sin entered the world.

Because of that, there were a lot of hard consequences that followed. But God chose to send his son to die for us so that we once again could live close to him.

Through the things that God does, we can see his unconditional love and how good he is to us.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”
John 3:16

God sent his only son to die on a cross so that whoever believe in him, should not perish but spend eternity with him.

“But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
Romans 5:8

We did not deserve to be rescued, Christ died for us while we were still sinners.

“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.”
James 1:17 ESV

God blesses us with so much. The earth he created is so beautiful and there is so much we get to enjoy because of it.

People In The Bible Being Confident In The Goodness Of God

In the Psalms written by David we can read about how confident he was in the fact that God is good.

“The Lord is righteous in all his ways and kind in all his works.”
Psalm 145:17

“The Lord is good to all, and his mercy is over all that he has made.”
Psalm 145:9

“Oh, how abundant is your goodness,
which you have stored up for those who fear you
and worked for those who take refuge in you,
in the sight of the children of mankind!”
Psalm 31:19

How abundant is your goodness, which you have stored up for those who fear you and worked for those who take refuge in you.

When we start to believe that God is good and that we fully can trust in him and surrender to him, we get to experience his goodness firsthand. When we let God guide us, we will see that he is good and he is faithful.

Not saying life will be easy if we follow Jesus, because that was never promised to us. The life of David wasn’t easy, but still, through harder and easier seasons he declared God’s goodness.

“Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!”
Psalm 34:8

Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him. When we choose to trust God we will see that the Lord is good.

“Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever!”
1 Chronicles 16:34

The Fruits Of The Spirit Reveals the Character Of God

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.”
Galatians 5:22-23

The fruits of the spirit all show us who God is. God is love, he is peace, he has forbearance, he is kind, he is GOOD, he is faithful and gentle.

Do You Really Believe What You Believe That You Believe?

I have told this story before here at the blog but it is a good one and this phrase has challenged me many times throughout the years. In a very good way.

Many years ago now, I was challenged with this question: “Do you really believe what you believe that you believe?”.

It seems like a stupid question at first but sometimes I think all of us need to ask ourselves this question. Sometimes we think that we believe that God is good but when we think about if we truly believe that God has our best interest in mind in every moment, that we fully can surrender all our lives to him, we might hesitate.

Being the one in control can be tempting, making the plans and then asking God to bless them. But I have learned that we get to seek God first and let him guide us from the start. Surrendering our lives to him is only possible when we truly believe that he knows better than we do.

Sometimes our confidence in God’s goodness is challenged by hard seasons in our lives. It is easier to believe in a good God when life is easy. But in times when life gets hard and things seem to be so unfair, our understanding of who God is is challenged.

But knowing that the character of God never changes is a very firm truth to stand on, especially when life feels overwhelming.

Why Spending Time With God Is Important

Just as with any other person, we have a hard time trusting people we don’t know. When we don’t know a person, we can’t be sure if they have good or bad intentions. We can hear a lot of things that other people tell about that person but not before we actually spend time with the person and see their character, we can start to trust them.

The same thing works in our relationship with God. We can read the whole Bible and know all the things that the Bible tells about who he is, but not before we actually spend time with God and surrender our lives to him we can start to fully trust him because we will start to see his character in everything that he does.

Knowing a lot of things about God doesn’t automatically mean that we really know him. Knowing about God and truly knowing him are two very different things.

Believing That God Is Good Will Change Your Life

Truly knowing who God is, makes us live confidently in the things that he calls us to, knowing that he will provide when we need that and that he has our best interest in mind.

Being confident that God truly is good as the Bible says he is, is important if we want to learn how to fully trust in God.
