Encouraging Bible Verses When Stressed
Reading some encouraging Bible verses when stressed can be a good way to remember what the Bible says about peace and how God sees us.
Before becoming a mom I used to be annoyed about how living in constant stress seemed to be so normalized. When I studied at the university it felt like everyone seemed to be expected to be stressed. Stress seemed to be something everyone just had to deal with.
Even if I do agree that all of us face stressful situations that are challenging in many ways, I feel like something is very wrong if we need to live in constant stress every day.
I don’t think we were designed to live in constant stress. Living with anxious thoughts all throughout our days shouldn’t be the norm. Still, I do agree that we shouldn’t always just accept stressful thoughts as a normal part of life.
But… becoming a mom has made me a lot more humble about that I too sometimes can have a hard time not getting caught in a cycle of feeling like the demands of life are too big for me to handle. I have realized that it can be hard to find strategies to not feel burdened by our circumstances.
I have been forced to grow in my dependency on God. At times when I know my strength and energy aren’t enough it has been so comforting to know that we aren’t meant to carry it all by ourselves.
I am not alone. You are not alone. God wants to meet you exactly where you are. When we choose to follow Christ, he lives in us and we get access to everything in him.
“This is how we know that we live in him and he in us: He has given us of his Spirit. And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in them and they in God.”
1 John 4:13-15
Bible Verses For Stressful Times
Before I became a mom I could sometimes hear moms talking about how challenging it is to be a mom and if I am honest I never really understood how challenging life as a parent can be.
Of course, I understood to some extent that sleepless nights and things like that could be hard to manage. But as the youngest child in my family, I had very little insight into what life as a parent actually meant.
So I became a mom really not knowing what I got myself into. 😀 I have been challenged in ways that I never expected to be. In some way, moms are meant to fully function even on days after nights with hardly any sleep.
During days like that, I have been challenged to not lose my patience, joy, and peace in ways I never have been challenged before.
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.”
Galatians 5:22-23
I have been challenged to depend on God to provide love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control when I don’t have those things myself.
Bible Verses When Stressed And Worried
Growing my dependency on God is one of the things that I am most thankful for looking back at the last few years. Because when we learn to trust God we can let go of control and not carry burdens we aren’t meant to carry.
“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”
James 1:2-4
Challenging times make us grow. Going through trials and choosing to trust God through it all produces perseverance. Our trust in the Lord can grow stronger when our faith is tested.
Experiencing God’s faithfulness when we are facing challenges makes it easier to trust God in the future.
Making the Most High Our Dwelling Place
“If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,”
and you make the Most High your dwelling,
no harm will overtake you,
no disaster will come near your tent.”
Psalm 91:9-10
When we say that the Lord is my refuge and we make the Most High our dwelling no harm will overtake us. When we turn to God and seek him and trust him, we live under his protection.
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
John 14:27
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.”
Proverbs 3:5-6
When we choose to put our trust in the Lord and trusting him with all our heart, we leave no space for lies to discourage us.
Take Every Thought Captive
“We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”
2 Corinthians 10:5
Just a couple of weeks ago I had a challenging day when I all of a sudden got stuck into a pattern of believing that I stand alone. That I need to carry everything myself and figure out the best solutions for every challenge by myself.
Knowing that God values relationships and wants to be a part of every part of our lives, I knew that wasn’t true. I am not alone. And I don’t need to carry it all by myself.
We aren’t designed to accept anxious thoughts all day every day, we are called to defeat lies with truth. There is a battle we need to face. We need to take a stand and we get to choose truth.
We need to take every thought captive and not let lies linger and get rooted in our hearts. So choosing faith and trusting the Lord is a good protection from harm.
I needed this reminder on that day when I felt alone. The truth is that I am not alone. God is my Father and he cares for me. God cares for you too.
“The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus be with you.”
Romans 16:20
Gods power is far greater than everything else. We walk in victory.
Encouraging Bible Verses When Stressed
“When hard pressed, I cried to the LORD; he brought me into a spacious place. The LORD is with me; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?”
Psalm 118:5-6
The Psalms are a great place to find testimonies about what fruit came out of trusting God. Trust makes fear go away.
“When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy.”
Psalm 94:19
There is so much joy and peace in knowing that God is on our side.
You Were Created With Purpose
The name of this website is inspired by Psalm 139 where we can read about how wonderfully and fearfully God creates.
God created you with so much love and so much intention. God wants to have a relationship with you both in challenging times and joyful moments. You are so precious to him.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
