At the beginning of my vacation this summer, I set some goals for myself in order to find creative ways to rest and stay off my phone as much as possible. One of my goals was to keep knitting throughout the summer. Pretty quickly, though, I ended up crocheting instead. I don’t have the same experience with crocheting as I do with knitting. The more I crochet, the more I realize that there is so much more to learn. In the blog post I published two weeks ago, I shared that I have learned a new crochet technique called the magic loop. I was looking for an easy crochet project and got the idea of crocheting cup coasters. I started by just improvising, but I wasn’t happy with how the middle section turned out, so I started looking for crochet patterns. Crochet Coaster – FREE Patterns I found a crochet pattern that starts with a magic loop and continues by increasing the number of stitches in every row. I’ll leave the link to the pattern here: The first crochet coaster pattern in the blog post above is a good beginner project, I would say, as I consider myself a beginner as well. These coasters are really simple to make. I spent a few hours crocheting coasters in different colors. I used a thin cotton yarn, so I used two strands of yarn to make the coasters a bit more sturdy. In the blog post linked above, they suggest using cotton yarn, and I would say that is a really good option. You could also choose a yarn made from wool but cotton is easy to clean if you would have to do that at some point. Anyway, I am looking forward to using these coasters as fall is approaching and hot drinks are starting to sound really nice again. If you are looking for more crochet coaster patterns to choose from, here is a link to one of my favorite websites for knitting and crochet patterns: https://www.garnstudio.com/search.php?action=browse&c=coasters-placemats&lang=en Here you can find so many different patterns to choose between on different levels of difficulty, so you can choose one depending on the level of challenge you are looking for. Easy Beginner Crochet Patterns As a beginner crocheter, I am just starting to challenge myself bit by bit by trying different crochet patterns. As fall gets closer, I know I will start feeling like knitting again, but maybe I will have time for one more crochet project. Let’s see. I hope that you are having a really good summer. I hope to see you again soon! Blessings.

This summer, I was determined to keep knitting throughout the summer. I have to admit that it’s been hard for me to keep knitting. Almost every year, I seem to prefer crocheting instead when the weather gets warmer. The same thing happened this year. But I don’t see that as a failure. Knitting and crocheting are both such fun ways to be creative. But I have to say that I have so much more experience with knitting than crocheting. I have so much more to learn when it comes to different crocheting techniques. And when it comes to crocheting, I sometimes feel like I don’t really know what I don’t know. I don’t know what things I need to learn. One Thing All Crocheters Need to Learn This summer, I discovered one thing that is just so cool! When I realized that this was something you could crochet, I felt like, how did I not know about this before?? And that is the magic loop! Everything I know about crocheting, I learned in school when I was a child. And I understand that during those few hours when we focus on learning the basics of crocheting, the time is so limited that teaching things like magic loops isn’t prioritized. But… you know when you find this really cool thing and you just wonder why no one told you about it before? That is the feeling I had when I learned that you can crochet magic loops. How to Crochet a Magic Loop There are so many really good video tutorials on how to crochet a magic loop, so I won’t make just another one like that. But here is a link to a really good video tutorial that shows you how to crochet a magic loop: Like with anything new that I try in crocheting or knitting, it always feels a little bit frustrating before I have done the technique a couple of times. Then it just starts to feel really easy. When that happens, and I don’t even have to think about the steps anymore, the technique becomes one more skill in my crocheting toolbox that I can use when trying new projects in the future. I have to admit, though, that I did a few magic loops during a couple of weeks in July. Then I took a break for a couple of weeks, and when I was supposed to do it again, I had to go back to the video tutorial. But with a quick check, I remembered how to do it really easily. Why Do You Need to Know How to Make Magic Loops? Magic loops are such a good thing to know how to crochet if you want to crochet anything that is worked in the round. Coasters, potholders… anything that starts in the middle and then keeps increasing to make something round. This summer, I have been crocheting cup coasters. I’ll share more about that in a future blog post. I tried some different techniques, but the magic loop was definitely my favorite way to start the coasters from the middle. So, magic loops, I am so happy I found you! 😉 And hopefully, if you hadn’t found them yet, now you have a new, really cool crochet technique to try out and have fun with. Hope to see you again soon!

Summer is in full bloom, and I am continuing on my challenge to not stop knitting and crocheting during this summer. These last couple of weeks, I have been crocheting a basket. As most times, I have gotten the inspiration from a few different crochet patterns. It’s hard for me to stick to one specific pattern as I always seem to have quite a specific idea in mind and don’t seem to find exactly the pattern I am looking for. Free Crochet Basket Patterns The first website I always go to to check for free knitting or crochet patterns is Drops Design. Here is a link to the patterns on knitted and crocheted baskets that you can find there: https://www.garnstudio.com/search.php?action=search&w=baskets&lang=us After looking around for a while I decided to go for a basket formed as a square. This Pinterest pin helped me with the base of the basket: https://se.pinterest.com/pin/111253053294548299/ When I was happy with the size of the bottom part of the basket I formed an edge through just picking up the inner part of the stitches(is that how you call them when you are crocheting as well as when you knit?). And then I just continued to crochet around until I reached a height of the sides that I liked, and then I crocheted a bit back and forth on one side to create a gap on the sides to create handles. I crocheted 1,5 times back and forth to create a nice height of the sides of the gaps and then I crocheted a strain of stitches to make the handle. I finished by crocheting one time around the of the basket. The Point Is Not Create Something Perfect As always, I do not have the patience to strive for perfect. I really enjoy the creative process of crocheting and knitting, but I do not have the patience to focus on small details. The instructions for the basket I made are not that detailed either, so if you have any questions, please leave a comment. Yarn For Crocheting Baskets The yarn I used for the basket was the yarn that was left from crocheting the tote bag from this blog post: https://underbartskapad.com/crochet-tote-bag-free-pattern/ At the yarn store where I found this yarn, there were so many different kinds of recycled cotton yarns to choose from. We hope you found some inspiration in this blog post to do something creative. And we hope you will have a really nice summer. We will keep posting about the knitting and crochet projects that this summer brings, at the moment I am not sure what will come next but welcome back in a couple of weeks for a new blog post! Blessings!

When I was happy with the size of the bottom part of the basket I formed an edge through just picking up the inner part of the stitches(is that how you call them when you are crocheting as well as when you knit?).

The Point Is Not Create Something Perfect

As always, I do not have the patience to strive for perfect. I really enjoy the creative process of crocheting and knitting, but I do not have the patience to focus on small details.

The instructions for the basket I made are not that detailed either, so if you have any questions, please leave a comment.

Yarn For Crocheting Baskets

The yarn I used for the basket was the yarn that was left from crocheting the tote bag from this blog post: https://underbartskapad.com/crochet-tote-bag-free-pattern/

At the yarn store where I found this yarn, there were so many different kinds of recycled cotton yarns to choose from.

We hope you found some inspiration in this blog post to do something creative. And we hope you will have a really nice summer.

We will keep posting about the knitting and crochet projects that this summer brings, at the moment I am not sure what will come next but welcome back in a couple of weeks for a new blog post!

Blessings!

This last few weeks I have been crocheting a tote bag for the summer season. Crochet tote bags have a summery vibe and makes me think of relaxed days at the beach. I have never crocheted a tote bag before so this was really a new challenge for me. The yarn I used was quite thick so something really nice with this project was that it grew on the needle very fast. Crochet Tote Bag Patterns I started out following a crochet pattern I found on drops design. Here is the link to that pattern: https://www.garnstudio.com/pattern.php?id=7839&cid=17 When I had finished the bottom part I chose to crochet double crochet stitches instead in the round until the tote bag had a height I liked. Here are some instructions on the stitch I used: https://www.garnstudio.com/video.php?id=26&lang=se The handle I made through skipping 18 stitches at each side in the middle and added a chain of 50 stitches for a handle of the length I wished. Here are some instructions on how to crochet a chain: https://www.garnstudio.com/video.php?id=22&lang=se This tote bag can be varied in so many different ways. There are some many different ways you can crochet a tote bag. If you are looking for inspiration, follow this link for some different tote bags to choose from: https://www.garnstudio.com/search.php?c=bags&lang=us Making Your Own Crochet Tote Bag Pattern I have realized that I have a really hard time to stick to a crochet pattern from start to finish. Most of the time when I knit or crochet I have a really specific vision in mind and I rarely find exactly the crochet or knitting pattern that I am looking for. But, most of the time I find a pattern that is close to my idea and I can adjust the pattern according to the vision I have. However, crocheting this tote bag was a really nice project to start this summer season with. I have a little bit left of the yarn I used so I think next project will be a little basket of some kind. Let’s see if I can find a pattern that I like. Maybe that will be the next blog post that will be published after this one. Crocheting Through The Summer I hope that you will have a really nice summer trying out some new crochet ideas. Being creative in relaxing ways throughout summer can be a really nice way to keep a nice productive feeling throughout maybe some slower weeks in the summer. Here where we live, it really starts to feel like summer. Our children has only one week left of school and in a couple of weeks, we will celebrate midsummer. I hope you will have a great start of your summer. Many blessings from us to you!
