Encouraging Bible Verses To Overcome Worry

Here are some encouraging Bible verses to overcome worry.

When Worry Takes Over

I think we have all been there, laying in bed at night and we can’t cut off our thoughts.

Worrying can steal so much of our joy and peace. Often we realize that when worry takes over. Worrying doesn’t get us anywhere. But still, it can be so hard to stop worrying about things.

I know that I many times have worried about things that in the end never happened. How crazy isn’t that, that we sometimes spend time thinking and worrying about things that never actually happen?

I would say that I am quite an optimistic person, worry is not something that I struggle with that much but I have for sure had my moments. I think that even if we have an optimistic approach to life, we all sometimes have times of worry.

New Seasons Can Make Us Worry

During the last few years, our family has grown. We now have three children, they are 7, 4, and 1 year old. Life as a mom has triggered worry in ways I never expected it to. It is such a gift to be a mom but the responsibility of it also can be hard to handle at times.

Being a mom has been one of the things that have caused the most worry for me during my life so far. I don’t know about you, what things tend to make you feel worried.

There are a few Bible verses that really have helped me as I have had seasons of worry. In this blog post, I will share them with you. I hope you will be encouraged.

“Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?”

Luke 12:25-26

“Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life?” The Bible makes it so clear that worrying doesn’t get us anywhere. Worrying is not worth it in any way.

Bible Verses To Overcome Worry

“God is our refuge and strength,
    an ever-present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
though its waters roar and foam
and the mountains quake with their surging.”

Psalm 46:1-3

God is our refuge. He is our ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear. The psalmist in Psalm 46 says that the reason to not fear is that God is our refuge and strength, our ever-present help in trouble.

The absence of problems is not the key to not worrying. Seeing God as our refuge and strength takes away our worry.

Sometimes it is easy to think that if only life was easier, we would not worry so much. But I think that we often find things to worry about even in the seasons that might be less challenging if we have a hard time trusting God.

God is trustworthy.

Trusting God can be hard. Sometimes we think that if we can take control over our lives, it will be better. We don’t trust that God really has our best interest in mind.

What we worry about the most often reveals where we trust God the least.

“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”

1 Peter 5:7

Peters says that we should give all our worries and cares to God because we can trust him.

How To Stop Worrying So Much?

Trusting God when life doesn’t make sense can be hard. Sometimes we don’t understand everything but God does.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Matthew 11:28-30

Jesus says come to me and I will give you rest. He is humble and gentle at heart. You will find rest for your soul.

Trusting God is a way of finding rest from our worries.

Worrying Doesn’t Get Us Anywhere

“I have had many troubles in my life, many of them I have never experienced.”

Mark Twain

Worrying gives us something to do but it doesn’t get us anywhere. Sometimes worrying can feel good to do when life feels unsure. It fills our mind and it sometimes can feel like it makes the challenges we face more valid.

When there is something happening in our lives that we can’t fix right away and we are unsure of how it all will work out, it can be tempting to worry. Worrying keeps our minds busy when we don’t know what to do.

But worry is not productive, it gets us nowhere. We will never know what happens tomorrow. That will never change.

But in it all, God is trustworthy. God is faithful today and he will be faithful tomorrow.

Something that we can choose to do when life feels overwhelming instead of worrying is to talk with our heavenly father.

Prayer is far more productive than worrying.

Choosing To Pray Instead Of To Worry

When life feels overwhelming and out of control we can choose to talk to our Father instead of worrying.

We can trust God in the good days and in the bad days. We can go to God with everything. Sometimes we just want to give him the best of us but he also wants to carry our burdens. We can be very honest with God.

When it feels hard to trust God, talk to him! God wants us to be honest with him. Pretending to trust God doesn’t help anyone, honesty gives room for God to work in our lives.

As said earlier, prayer is so much more productive than worrying. So during the moments when worry takes over, I think the best advice to remember is to choose to pray instead of letting our thoughts go everywhere.

God wants to help us when life feels hard and overwhelming. So we can be honest with him and let him show us what he has for us and speak into the situation we are in.

So if you are in a hard season in life. Remember that God sees you, he knows the things that make you worry. He wants to show what his thoughts are for you at this time. He will always stay faithful.
