The downside of knitting, though, is the many unfinished knitting projects. I think there is no way to avoid having unfinished knitting projects lying around as a knitter. I really like to have at least two different ongoing knitting projects at all times.

Usually, I like to have one simple knitting project with stockinette stitch for moments when I don’t want to think much about how to knit and one knitting project that has cables or color work that is a little bit more challenging.

Organizing Your Knitting Projects

When you have a few different knitting projects lying around, I have learned that keeping them in project bags is one easy way to keep the projects in one place and organized.

How To Make Your Own Knitting Project Bag

1. Cut out a piece of fabric that has the double size of the project bag you want to make.
2. Zigzag the edges of the fabric.
3. Fold the fabric with the right side inside and sew around the bottom and the side leaving the top open.
4. Fold the top part of the project bag to make a tunnel where you can pull a string through.
5. Leave a little opening in the tunnel so you can pull through a string or ribbon and do so.

That is all. Making one of these project bags takes me around 30 minutes to finish, and if you want to make several of them, you can do so by just cutting out many fabric pieces and making several of them at the same time. So worth the time invested to keep your knitting projects organized!

What Fabric To Choose For Your Knitting Project Bag?

I would say a good fabric for knitting project bag is some kind of cotton fabric. The fabric I chose for this specific bag doesn’t have any stretch to it but I have also made project bags with jersey fabric.

I prefer fabrics that are soft and not too thick but I actually think any kind of fabric could work so if you have some fabric at home I think it should work just fine!

It might seem a little counterproductive to have goals for the time when you are supposed to be resting, but for me, these last few years, since I became a mom, it’s not been that easy for me to find time to truly rest, so I have had to make strategies on how to utilize the time spent resting in a good way.

One thing I try to limit as much as possible when rest is needed is scrolling. Even if it’s so easy to end up scrolling on the phone, I know that scrolling actually doesn’t make me feel rested at all.

Finding Ways To Rest During A Vacation

So, limiting the time spent scrolling and choosing other activities instead is one of the things I try to do these weeks. One thing I have told myself that I will do is to read books. I am very happy with myself that I finished one book the firs weekend of my vacation.

Now, I need to find a new book so I can keep the flow.

One other thing that I know gives my brain some rest is doing something simple and creative. So knitting is also one of the things that I want to do this summer.

Bookmark Knitting Patterns

This bookmark took me about 30 minutes to knit from start to finish. So if you are looking for something really fast and easy to knit, a bookmark might be the perfect knitting project for you.

In the end, I chose to crochet around the edges to make the bookmark a little more sturdy.

As most times, I have gotten the inspiration from a few different crochet patterns. It’s hard for me to stick to one specific pattern as I always seem to have quite a specific idea in mind and don’t seem to find exactly the pattern I am looking for.

Free Crochet Basket Patterns

The first website I always go to to check for free knitting or crochet patterns is Drops Design. Here is a link to the patterns on knitted and crocheted baskets that you can find there: https://www.garnstudio.com/search.php?action=search&w=baskets&lang=us

After looking around for a while I decided to go for a basket formed as a square. This Pinterest pin helped me with the base of the basket: https://se.pinterest.com/pin/111253053294548299/

When I was happy with the size of the bottom part of the basket I formed an edge through just picking up the inner part of the stitches(is that how you call them when you are crocheting as well as when you knit?).

And then I just continued to crochet around until I reached a height of the sides that I liked, and then I crocheted a bit back and forth on one side to create a gap on the sides to create handles.

I crocheted 1,5 times back and forth to create a nice height of the sides of the gaps and then I crocheted a strain of stitches to make the handle. I finished by crocheting one time around the of the basket.

The Point Is Not Create Something Perfect

As always, I do not have the patience to strive for perfect. I really enjoy the creative process of crocheting and knitting, but I do not have the patience to focus on small details.

This last few weeks I have been crocheting a tote bag for the summer season. Crochet tote bags have a summery vibe and makes me think of relaxed days at the beach.

I have never crocheted a tote bag before so this was really a new challenge for me. The yarn I used was quite thick so something really nice with this project was that it grew on the needle very fast.

Making Your Own Crochet Tote Bag Pattern

I have realized that I have a really hard time to stick to a crochet pattern from start to finish. Most of the time when I knit or crochet I have a really specific vision in mind and I rarely find exactly the crochet or knitting pattern that I am looking for.

But, most of the time I find a pattern that is close to my idea and I can adjust the pattern according to the vision I have.

However, crocheting this tote bag was a really nice project to start this summer season with. I have a little bit left of the yarn I used so I think next project will be a little basket of some kind. Let’s see if I can find a pattern that I like. Maybe that will be the next blog post that will be published after this one.

Crocheting Through The Summer

Most of us can agree that sunshine really has the power to turn our days around. I have been enjoying the sun so soo much these last few weeks. These last few weeks have been so intense in so many different ways but almost every morning we wake up to the sun shining through our window.

Sunshine in the morning really sets the tone for the day in a really good way.

Summer can be a season when these verses become very practical. I have learned that these verses are true no matter what our lives look like. In busy seasons, God meets us with so much grace, and in slower seasons, we get to seek Him in a way that busy seasons might prevent us from doing.

One of my goals for this summer is to read more. I hope I will prioritize slow moments spent reading a book. And I hope my children will let me. 😉

I remember it was during a season that I was really busy as a mom and I had to find some time every day to recharge. It is so easy to use the little time that we are given to spend as we wish on our phones.

Stop Scrolling Motivational Wallpaper

I think I need a reminder of not spending the few minutes I get in the evening when the kids are sleeping on my phone, so I made this iPhone wallpaper with the same message, but this time with more summery activities.

Summertime brings other opportunities to be creative than winter. These last few years, I have been planting some vegetables from seed in the spring. Last year I planted some tomatoes and none of the plants survived.

I got excited to put them out on the balcony when the weather got warmer in May, but the cold of the night made them all die.

Summery Creative Activities

This year, though, I planted some tomato seeds at the beginning of March, and they are now growing really well. I saw that two of them already have some signs of blooming, so I hope to have better luck this year.

I am not going to put them outside before sometime in June, just so I don’t risk killing them this year as well.

Other activities I really look forward to doing this summer include spending time close to the sea. Being close to the sea and enjoying the beach is so nice. During summertime, I always wish I lived close to the sea so we could spend more time enjoying it.

Summer Knitting

One thing that I usually take a break from doing during summer, but that I tried not to stop doing during summer last year, was knitting. Knitting has always been a winter activity for me that brings coziness to cold evenings.

But summer knitting is pretty cool, also, I have realized! Knitting in cotton is a little bit different than knitting in warm yarns like wool, but it is really nice to vary knitting and to try some new kind of projects.

As I had some yellow yarn in my yarn stash, I decided to start knitting yellow socks for our youngest child. Knitting for our children always makes a faster project, and lately, our children have been very happy when they realize that I am knitting for them.

That has definitely not always been the case, especially since our son has been so upset with itchy yarns but lately, he as well has started to put in orders on things he would like me to knit for him. That is so nice!

But, anyhow, this week these socks have been on my needles.

A few days, ago I was picking my son up from school, and his teacher told me that my son had been really talkative when they talked about Easter that day. She got curious about why he knew so much about the reason we celebrate Easter and asked my older daughter if we go to church.

Indeed, we do. It was nice to hear that our children know the Easter story because the victory Jesus won is truly life-changing, and that is so worth celebrating!

I think I have heard someone say that chickens are a symbol of life, and that makes them a good reminder of what Easter really is about.

Here is a list of 3 simple things to knit. These knitting projects are all really fast knitting projects, but you can also use these projects to try new techniques and enhance your knitting skills.

Simple Knitting Projects

1. Washcloths
2. Bookmarks
3. Scrunchies

Washcloth

Washcloths can be knitted in so many ways. You can knit a washcloth that is very simple, or you can choose a pattern that challenges you a little bit. Whichever knitting pattern you choose, a washcloth can be knitted in a couple of hours.

I knitted one of the knitting patterns, this washcloth you see above is very easy to knit, you only need to alternate knit stitch and purl stitch. I used a cotton yarn, which I think is a good yarn choice for washcloths.

As with any other knitting project, you can vary the way it looks by choosing different kinds of yarns and colors.

Bookmarks

I have not knitted a lot of lace before. And that actually makes me be a little hesitant to knit knitting projects with lace, it feels challenging to read the knitting charts when there are so many new symbols I don’t recognize.

Details are also not really my thing, I usually really keep thing very simple. But, I thought, as bookmarks are so fast and simple to knit, this could be a really good way to learn a little bit about knitting lace. And I do recommend trying this knitting pattern if you want to knit a fast lace knitting project.

But, of course, there are so many different ways to knit bookmarks, you don’t need to choose a bookmark with a lace pattern. You could make a bookmark with only the knitted stitch.

Scrunchies

These last couple of weeks, I have knitted scrunchies in many different colors. Knitting a scrunchie takes about one hour. It is such a fast knitting project. Our daughters have realized that they can wish for a scrunchie in a specific color and that it doesn’t take very much time to make them.

I think it is so fun that our children is starting to be interested in knitting and start making orders, I am very happy to knit for them.

So, those are three knitting projects that are really fast to knit. You can vary the difficulty level in so many ways, and trying new knitting techniques on small knitting projects is a really good idea.

Easy Cable Knit Project For Beginners

This was a really easy knitting project that I think beginner knitters would really enjoy. Knitting cables looks so advanced, but it doesn’t have to be so hard.

If you are looking for an easy cable knit project, I would say this is a really good one to start with.

The knitting pattern for this headband is found in the link to Drops design you can find at the beginning of the blog post.

I almost followed that knitting pattern but chose to knit in the round instead to make the headband a little thicker, just as my daughter wanted. 😉 I have to say that this is a new season of knitting, I am not used to that many options when I knit for my children.

My oldest daughter is now 9 years old, and I had to start from the beginning 3 times over to meet her expectations. But she was really happy with the end result, so that is good!

Learn To Knit Cables

In that video, she explains very well how cables are knitted without making it seem complicated.

When you get the hang of it, you will have a lot of opportunities to practice if you choose to knit this headband, because even if you knit it for a child, there is a lot of repetitions involved.

You can definitely do it! I highly recommend that you try!

The first cable knit project I finished was a beanie. When I was in my teenage years and I remember I wore that beanie so much!! I had friends asking if I could knit one for them as well. I think that was one of the first knitting projects that I was actually proud of finishing.

There is something with homemade knit that sometimes makes it look so homemade, and when I was young, I thought I wasn’t that cool to wear something that looked homemade. But knitting projects with cables tend to look quite neat and cool.
