How To Knit A Hat With Circular Needles

Here are some easy instructions on how to knit a hat with circular needles.

The snow is finally here! These colder days are the best motivator for knitting. When the days get shorter and the cold winter is getting closer, I usually get really inspired to knit.

This year is no different. This fall I have knitted one hat for myself, usually I knit more for other people and then I end up using the hats and things that I have made for my husband for example but now I did knit a hat specifically for me. I am really happy with the result.

Last winter got really cold, so I wanted to knit a hat that is warm but that still doesn’t feel too rigid, so I decided to take to strands of a baby merino wool yarn that is quite thin and use needles of size 4. And I am really happy with how it turned out.

It is definitely quite thick, but I know that I will be happy for that when it gets colder.

How To Knit A Hat With Circular Needles

I would say that this hat is a size small for women, it’s 52 cm around the lower part of the hat.

This hat is made with double-stranded yarn suitable for needles size 3,5. I used yarn made of wool, you can choose the material you prefer. And as I said earlier I used two strands of the yarn just to make it more thick.

Cast on 144 sts and divide on four double-pointed needles(size 3,5) or a circular needle(size 3,5).

Start knitting rib pattern(1 knit, 1 purl).

Keep knitting until it measures around 7 cm, depending on how long you want the part that you fold in double to be.

When you are happy with how long you want that part of the hat to be it’s time to knit the part where you will fold the hat. You will knit over the stitches you earlier have purled, and you will purl over the stitches you have knitted. This is so that it will be easier to fold the hat in that particular place.

If these instructions are confusing, you can look at the images below to see what I mean.

Knitting The Rest Of The Hat

When you are finished with that round of knitting you just keep knitting until the part between where the hat is folded is around 15 cm. Then it is time to start decreasing.

First decreasing is made every other row. It is easier to have the sts decided on four different needles with 36 sts on each when you are decreasing.

Knit the first two sts together through the front loop and the last two sts together through the back loop on each needle.

Knit one row without decreasing.
Knit one row with decreasing as earlier decribed.

From now on, decreasing is made on every row until 2 sts remain on each needle. Cut the yarn and pull it through the stitches.

Done!

If you need some time to just relax, one way to do so is to do some knitting and watch one of her videos. She also has some really helpful knitting tutorials if you are new to knitting and want to challenge yourself a little bit.

Just a tip from me, if you are in need of some knitting inspiration. 🙂

More Creative Ideas For The Winter Season

If you are looking for more creative inspiration, feel free to look around at our website. Here is a link to some other creative ideas that we have posted: https://underbartskapad.com/category/diy-en-en/

I am getting more excited for the winter season as it is getting closer. At the beginning of fall, I was really excited for fall, as I always am, but I was not at all excited for the winter that would come after.

But now I am getting a little more warm to the idea of some days out sledding and lots of time indoors playing and doing creative things together. These last few days, our children have actually been really good at playing together indoors so maybe that is why I actually think this winter will be okay. 😉

But I also want to slow down and do things that are hard to find time to do in the warmer seasons when the weather is warmer and we spend a lot of time outside.

So, I hope this winter will be a quite restful one. And we wish the same thing for you!

We hope that you will have a blessed holiday season and that the colder weather will bring many cozy moments to your days.
