Mother’s Day is coming closer. In Finland where I come from this coming Sunday is actually the day we celebrate Mother’s Day and then in a couple of weeks we here in Sweden where we now live will celebrate it.

Motherhood is such a sweet sweet privilege. I am so grateful for the gift of three children. It is truly such an overwhelming journey to be on.

Before having kids I heard that when you are a mom you will have moments and seasons that you feel overwhelmed. You will feel like you are not enough. So I knew that most probably those moments would come.

But what I wasn’t prepared for was that that feeling would exist in almost every area of my life. I have sometimes felt insufficient not only as a mom but also as a wife and as a friend. I have also had to simplify my life in so many different ways just to be able to care for my family.

Every moment is so much more intense with little ones around you. No matter what you do and where you are heading, there is so much more to think of and plan.

I don’t know if you have seen these talent shows where people do a task at the same time as they tell decimals of pi. That’s how I feel many times. As we try to get out the door, packing all the things we need and answering all the questions of our 6-year-old at the same time.

Life as a parent can be so challenging. To be honest it is far more challenging than I ever imagined and it has its ups and downs.

Motherhood has definitely made me more aware of all the effort it takes to be a mother. I am now so grateful for my own mom and all the other people who have invested in my life as I grew up.

So let’s take the chance to show appreciation to all the moms who are doing their best in their role as a parent.
