Psalm 91 is such a beautiful Psalm. We can read how those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
For those who are longing for rest these verses are so comforting.
Some verses in the Psalm are also a little challenging our trust in the Lord. The author of this Psalm declares that God alone is his refuge, his place of safety. The verse continues saying that the Lord is his God and that he trust Him.
In order to really find refuge in God and find safety in Him we need to fully trust Him.
What Does It Mean To Be Under The Shadow Of His Wings?
“He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him.”
In order to really trust God we need to get to know him. If we understand his greatness and that he really wishes the very best for us and that he knows our best it is easy to trust him.
Fully trusting God can be easier said than done. Full surrender and trusting in the Lord is challenging.
There is a difference between believing God is good and knowing that He wants what is best for me. When we understand that he really loves us in a personal way, we can start trusting that He really knows and wants our best.
When we learn to seek him first and fully trust him we get to live under the shadow of his wings. We get to live under his protection of living in the way that he created us to live. Close to him.
Some Swans Close To Our Home
In a small stream close to our house, two swans have been living for the last few years. These birds are so majestic. Their wings are big and look very strong.
When I was I child I remember seeing some swans in our summer cottage from very far away. Those swans kept a lot of distance from us so I have always thought of swans as birds that don’t want to be close to us humans.
But these swans that live close to our home here where we live now are not at all afraid of humans. We can get really close to them. and now when we have a chance to see them so close I realize how big they are. These birds are so majestic!
I can imagine that the baby swans feel very protected when they are sheltered by the wings of their mom or dad because the wings of a swan are so wide. But I also think that any kind of bird do feel protected when they are sheltered by the wings of their parents.
Anyway, the swans close to our home remind me of Psalm 91 so here are some free printable coloring pages with a swan family and verse four. Under the wings of our creator, heavenly father, and almighty God we will find refuge as we fully trust in him.

As I am writing this it is spring and I and our kids are looking forward to summertime when we get to see all the new swan and other bird babies of this year.
The dependency the small babies have on their mom is very much the same dependency that we get to have on our heavenly Father.
“He will cover you with his feathers… his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.” When life is challenging it is so comforting to know that the faithfulness of God never will change. God has not promised us a life without challenges but we can know that He always will be faithful!
