Knitting Pattern, Mittens For Kids, 1-2 years

Here is a knitting pattern for mittens for kids, 1-2 years. Finding mittens that our kids don’t just pull off has been a challenge.

These mittens are super simple to knit and our one-year-old son actually seems to like them. They aren’t bulky so he can have them on and still grab things which keeps him happy. 🙂

These mittens are made with yarn that is suitable for knitting sock needles size 3-3 1/2. I have made them with 100% acrylic yarn and 100% wool yarn so you can choose yarn with the material you prefer.

Mittens For Kids, Knitting Pattern

Right mitten:

Cast on 32 sts and divide evenly on four double pointed needles(size 3/3,5). Start knitting the rib pattern for the cuff (1K, 1P) 1,7 inches(4,5 cm). Continue knitting stocking stitch 1,2 inches(3 cm). Now it is time to leave a mark for the thumb. Knit the first 4 sts on the first needle with a different color of yarn and continue knitting with your regular yarn to finish the row. Continue knitting stocking stitch until in covers the little finger. Start decreasing the amount of sts by one on every needle when you knit. Knit the first two sts together through the back loop on the 1st and 3rd needle and the last two sts together through the front loop on the 2nd and 4th needle. Continue like that until 2 sts remain on each needle. Cut the yarn and pull it through the stitches.

The thumb: Remove the four marked sts made with the other yarn and pick up sts from the upper and lower edge and on both sides so that you have 12 sts in total. Divide on 3 needles and knit stocking stitch for 1,2-1,4 inches(3-3,5 cm) and start decreasing the number of stitches. Put all sts on only 2 needles and knit two first sts together in the back loop and two last sts together in the front loop on both needles. Continue until only 2 sts remain on each needle. Cut the yarn and pull it through each stitch that is left.

Left mitten: same as the right mitten but the mark for the thumb is made on the last four sts on the 2nd needle instead.

Yay!! Finally we found mittens that our son actually approve of!!

Easy Knitting Patterns

This knitting pattern is pretty easy and fast to make. I have, as long as I remember, really liked knitting. Knitting is such a nice, relaxing activity, especially during fall and winter, it is just such an easy creative activity to do at home, when you are traveling, at a coffee place, and so on.

I have tried so many different knitting projects and the ones that I keep coming back to are the easy fast projects that aren’t too complicated.

Over the years I have found my favorite way to knit so basic accessories like mittens, socks, and things like that.

In the category called knitting projects on the blog, you can find a few knitting patterns on how to knit some basic simple accessories. Here is a link to follow if you are interested in that: https://underbartskapad.com/category/diy-en-en/knitting-patterns-en-en/
